Best Christmas Lights in Branson, Missouri: Where I’d Actually Go in 2026

One thing about Christmas in Branson still blows my mind.

We really don’t have one big free Christmas light display.

I’m from Oklahoma. We have Christmas in the Park in Yukon, the Festival of Light in Chickasha and Rhema Lights in Tulsa. You pile everybody into the car, go look at Christmas lights and leave a donation.

Then I moved to one of the biggest Christmas destinations in the country and realized we’re paying for almost all of ours. 😂

So if you’re going to spend money looking at Christmas lights in Branson, let me help you figure out where I think that money is actually worth spending.

If You Only Have Time for One Christmas Light Experience in Branson

If you have an entire day, go to Silver Dollar City. If you only have a couple of hours, I would choose Nature at Night at Top of the Rock.

If you absolutely forced me to choose only one overall, Silver Dollar City wins by just a little bit.

But that’s because Silver Dollar City isn’t really just a Christmas light display.

It’s an entire Christmas day.

Silver Dollar City: My Pick If You Have the Whole Day

Silver Dollar City has more than 6.5 million Christmas lights throughout the park.

But the lights aren’t really why I give Silver Dollar City the overall win.

It’s everything together.

You have the lights, the giant Christmas trees, the parade, the train, shows, food and everything else happening around the park. You can arrive during the day and stay until everything is glowing after dark.

Nothing gets me in the Christmas mood quite like Silver Dollar City.

Just know what you’re signing up for. This is not something I would squeeze into two hours.

And if you have any choice at all, avoid Saturdays and Christmas break. Those are some of the busiest days of the entire season.

Top of the Rock Nature at Night: The Most Unique Christmas Lights in Branson

If you’re looking for something completely different from a traditional drive-through Christmas light display, this is my pick. It’s probably the most romantic Christmas light experience in Branson, but I absolutely recommend it for families too.

I’ve done Nature at Night every year since it started, and I still love it.

You drive your own golf cart along the Lost Canyon trail after dark while the canyon, waterfalls and cliffs are illuminated with these huge nature-inspired light displays.

It’s not candy canes and Santa everywhere.

There are giant animals, illuminated caves, waterfalls and lights woven into the Ozarks around you.

That’s exactly why I like it.

For couples, this would be my first choice. There’s something incredibly romantic about snuggling up together as you drive through all those twinkling lights.

But don’t mistake that for me saying this is only a couples activity. I’ve taken family plenty of times, and kids can have just as much fun riding around in the golf cart and seeing the huge light displays.

If it’s cold, bring a blanket and grab some hot cocoa at the Bat Bar. I’ve done Nature at Night on a ridiculously cold evening before. We bundled up and were completely fine.

But here’s the big thing:

You absolutely need a reservation during Christmas.

I had people messaging me constantly last year because the night they wanted was sold out.

If you know you’re going, don’t piddle around when reservations open.

Promised Land Zoo: The Best Christmas Lights for Your Money

If you’re looking for the best value, I think Promised Land Zoo wins, especially if you use my discount.

Let There Be Lights starts with a drive-through Christmas light display, but that’s not where your night ends.

After you drive through the lights, you park the car and get out.

You can go through the petting zoo, head to the barn to see Santa and visit another indoor area with more animals.

That’s why I think your money goes farther here than at a traditional drive-through light display.

And when you combine everything that’s included with the savings from my Promised Land Zoo discount, I think this is one of the easiest Christmas activities in Branson to recommend for families.

I’ve also done several of their upgraded animal encounters, and I absolutely think they’re worth it!

Which one you choose really depends on what animal you love, but we’ve had great experiences with the ones we’ve done.

If I had younger kids and wanted Christmas lights plus something for them to actually do, Promised Land Zoo would be high on my list.

Shepherd of the Hills Trail of Lights: My Traditional Drive-Through Pick

If what you want is a traditional drive-through Christmas light experience, I’d choose Trail of Lights at Shepherd of the Hills.

You stay in your own vehicle and drive through the Shepherd of the Hills property.

A few years ago, they gave the display an upgrade that it desperately needed, and it has been looking much better!

If you want to make a bigger night out of it with kids, Shepherd also has North Pole Adventure with Santa, activities and more Christmas fun on the property.

But Trail of Lights can be done completely on its own.

One tip: avoid the busiest part of Saturday night if you can. Going shortly after sunset or closer to closing can save you from sitting in some of the longest lines.

And everybody goes to the bathroom before you get in line.

I am so serious.

There is nothing quite like having to stop in the middle of a Christmas light display because your friend’s kid has peed his pants and you need to get him out of the car and get those wet pants off.

Yes. That actually happened to me. 😂

Also, get gas first.

We once got halfway through a Christmas light drive before my car informed me that we had about TWO MILES until empty.

I assure you, I was no longer enjoying the Christmas lights.

Big Cedar Lodge at Christmas

Big Cedar is basically an entire resort covered in Christmas lights.

If you’re staying there, Christmas is one of the coolest times to do it.

But one question I get all the time is:

Can you see the Christmas lights at Big Cedar if you aren’t staying there?

Yes.

There is typically a charge during the Christmas season for non-guests who want to drive through the resort and see the lights.

Big Cedar also has a Christmas tram ride, snow tubing and ice skating for an additional cost, plus all the restaurants and other things happening around the resort.

One little trick I’ve used in the past is making a restaurant reservation at Big Cedar.

When I’ve told the gate that I had a dining reservation, they’ve let me onto the property without charging me the Christmas-light entry fee.

I would verify that before planning around it because policies can change, but it has worked for me in the past.

And since Big Cedar has some of my favorite restaurants in the area anyway, dinner plus Christmas lights can make a fantastic night.

Want to See Christmas Lights in Branson for Free?

Your best free option is simply driving around town.

And this still seems crazy to me.

With as big as Christmas is in Branson, I wish we had one of those huge city-run light displays like I grew up with in Oklahoma.

We don’t.

But you can still have a fun night without buying another ticket.

Start toward the northwest side of Highway 76 and drive the Strip toward downtown. A lot of the businesses along the Strip go all out decorating for Christmas, so there’s plenty to see just driving through town.

Then keep going toward downtown and the Branson Landing area.

And there’s one place you absolutely need to watch for.

The Chick-fil-A on Main Street

The Chick-fil-A near downtown on Main Street goes ALL OUT.

It’s in the area we call Hamburger Hill because there are so many hamburger places clustered together.

During Christmas, this Chick-fil-A is covered in lights.

So many people slow down to look at the display and don’t even realize they’re looking at a Chick-fil-A until they really start paying attention.

They’ve even turned the drive-through into a light tunnel.

It’s ridiculous.

In the best way.

Other Ways to See the Christmas Lights in Branson

You don’t necessarily have to drive yourself around.

I’ve done several of these, and they can give you a completely different Christmas night.

Redneck Comedy Bus Christmas Tour

I’ve personally done the Christmas version.

It’s the same general comedy style as their regular tour, but with Christmas jokes mixed in, and the second half of the tour takes you through Christmas lights.

You’re still going to stop at the Landing and sample moonshine too.

If you already wanted to do the Redneck Comedy Bus, I think Christmas is a fun time to do it.

Pink Jeep Christmas Tour

I actually prefer the Pink Jeep Christmas tour to the tours I’ve done during other parts of the year.

One of my favorite parts is where they project a Nativity scene onto a huge canyon wall.

Like any guided tour, your experience can vary a little depending on who your guide is. But Christmas is definitely the season when I would personally choose to do Pink Jeep.

See Branson’s Christmas Lights From the Air

This one is completely different.

I’ve done a helicopter Christmas lights tour around sunset with snow on the ground.

And I’m terrified of heights.

I still did it. 😂

Seeing Highway 76 lit up from above and then flying over toward the Silver Dollar City area was incredible.

If you’re looking for something romantic or you want a Christmas experience that feels like a special occasion, seeing Branson’s lights from the air is hard to beat.

I haven’t personally done their Christmas lights tour, so I’m not going to pretend I can give you a firsthand review.

But I’ve had plenty of people tell me they enjoy being able to sit back and let somebody else handle the driving while they look at the lights.

What About Lights of Joy?

Lights of Joy has not historically been one of my favorite Christmas light displays in Branson.

For what it cost, I felt like there were other places where you got more for your money.

But I’m also not going to judge the 2026 version based completely on what I’ve experienced in previous years.

They’re saying the display is getting a major upgrade for 2026 with more than 250 new displays.

So I’m interested!

I want to see what they’ve done before I decide whether my opinion has changed.

For now, if Lights of Joy is included as part of something bigger like a Christmas bus tour, fabulous. I look at the value differently when it’s one piece of an entire night.

Would it historically have been the first standalone Christmas light display I’d tell you to spend your money on?

No.

But I’ll update this after I’ve seen the new version.

Make Looking at Christmas Lights a Christmas Tradition

Some of my favorite memories of looking at Christmas lights really have very little to do with the lights.

Grab some hot chocolate and popcorn. Throw some blankets in the car. Turn up the Christmas music.

And talk.

Talk about your favorite Christmas memories.

We have plenty.

The Christmas my husband missed because there was a blizzard and, as a sheriff’s deputy, he chose to work an extra shift helping rescue people who had been stuck in snowbanks for hours.

The time Mom brought dog treats that looked like human cookies and Jacob ate one.

The night we were getting ready to go look at Christmas lights and Dad’s side window and car door shattered.

Every family has these stories.

So yes, go see the millions of lights. Ride around in the golf cart. Take the kids to see Santa.

But talk while you’re doing it.

Are there free Christmas lights in Branson?

There isn’t a major free drive-through Christmas light park in Branson like you’ll find in some other cities.

Your best free option is to drive Highway 76 through the Strip, then continue toward downtown and the Branson Landing area. A lot of the businesses decorate for Christmas, and be sure to pass the Main Street Chick-fil-A too.

What is the best drive-through Christmas light display in Branson?

My pick for a traditional standalone drive-through is Trail of Lights at Shepherd of the Hills.

Thanksgiving crowds start building the Friday before Thanksgiving and stay heavy through the Sunday afterward. Silver Dollar City is especially busy on weekends and anytime kids are out of school.

Do Branson Christmas lights stay open after Christmas?

Yes. Many of Branson’s major Christmas light experiences continue through the end of December or into the first few days of January.

Always check the exact schedule for the attraction you’re visiting because closing dates vary.

Do I need reservations for Branson Christmas lights?

It depends on the attraction, but Top of the Rock Nature at Night is one I would absolutely reserve ahead of time.

Popular nights sell out, especially around Thanksgiving, Christmas break and weekends. If Nature at Night is high on your list, don’t wait until you arrive in Branson to decide you want tickets.
