You do not have to spend a fortune to have fun in Branson.

I’ve been showing people around Branson for the last six years, and one thing I’ve learned is that some free activities are absolutely worth your time, and others are just fillers people throw on lists because they technically don’t cost anything.

If you’re planning a budget-friendly trip to Branson, Missouri, these are the free attractions I actually recommend to friends, family, and followers.

Free Hiking Trails and Outdoor Activities in Branson

Waterfall Trail

This hidden trail sits right next to Westgate Resort, and if you’re not paying attention, you’ll probably drive right past it. You park across the street from the resort, but the trailhead is actually on the south side of the entrance on the same side of the road as the resort.

The hike takes about an hour and is slightly rocky but manageable for most people. There are a few slick spots if it’s been raining, and it’s a popular trail with families.

About halfway through the trail, you’ll come to a small waterfall. Keep going and you’ll find a second, larger waterfall. These are seasonal waterfalls, so don’t expect Niagara Falls. After a good rain, though, they’re beautiful and make for one of my favorite hidden gems in Branson.

Ruth and Paul Henning Conservation Area

Whether you’re wanting an easy stroll or a more challenging hike, you can find both here.

If you’re looking for an easy walk, take the trail to the right of the parking lot. It’s paved, shaded, and has plenty of places to stop and rest along the way. About halfway through, you’ll come to an old fire tower. If you’re willing to climb to the top, you’ll be rewarded with one of the prettiest 360-degree views in Branson. It’s one of my favorite views in town.

If you’re looking for something a little more challenging, take the trail to the left of the parking lot. It’s longer and has rougher terrain, but the views are absolutely gorgeous.

Table Rock Lakeshore Trail

If you’re wanting an easy walk with pretty views, this trail is hard to beat.

The two-mile trail is completely paved and is probably the most stroller and wheelchair-friendly walking path in Branson. It winds alongside Table Rock Lake and offers beautiful views of the water the entire way.

There are also a few smaller paths that branch off the main trail and take you down to the water’s edge. The trail passes right by the front entrance of the Showboat Branson Belle, making it a fun place to catch a glimpse of the boat.

I could walk this trail a hundred times and never get tired of it.

Lakeside Forest Wilderness Area

Fair warning, those stone stairs will humble you.

You’ll hike through the woods, descend historic stone staircases, and find some stunning overlooks of Lake Taneycomo. It’s hard to believe you’re only minutes from the Strip because it feels like you’re a hundred miles away from all the traffic and noise.

If you’re looking for free things to do near the Branson Strip that don’t feel touristy, put this one on your list.

Free Museums and Educational Attractions in Branson

Dewey Short Visitor Center

Kids usually have a lot of fun with this one because it’s hands-on and doesn’t take all day.

This small nature museum has interactive exhibits that teach visitors about Table Rock Lake and the surrounding area. Most families can explore everything in less than an hour.

Before you leave, make sure you go upstairs and step out onto the patio. The views of Table Rock Lake are absolutely gorgeous.

Creation Museum

The Creation Museum walks visitors through the story of creation from a biblical point of view. It’s a unique educational experience for families and anyone interested in biblical history.

Although this is a free experience, I highly suggest calling ahead and making reservations in advance.

Free IMAX Summer Movies

During the summer, the IMAX Theater offers free classic movies on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. These are movies that we all know and love, and it’s fun to experience them on the big screen.

Get there early because seats are first come, first served and doors open at 9 a.m.

The IMAX also offers other late-night movie specials during the summer if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to catch a movie after a day of exploring Branson.

Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery

I can’t tell you how many families I’ve sent here over the years.

Start by walking through the small museum and watching the short film that explains the history of the hatchery and what they do there. Then grab a couple of quarters and head outside to feed the fish.

The hatchery raises thousands of trout that are eventually stocked into Lake Taneycomo.

Pro tip: Bring a small cup or baggie for your fish food. It keeps everything contained and keeps your hands from smelling like fish food afterward.

College of the Ozarks

The campus is absolutely beautiful and has several free things to explore.

Visit the Tractor Museum, walk through the old mill, and stop by the chapel. If you arrive at the right time, you can even watch them feed the baby calves.

Before you leave, ask the security guard for directions to Point Lookout. The views are worth the short drive.

Branson Centennial Museum

Located in Historic Downtown Branson, this small museum is a fun place to learn more about the history of the town and see how much Branson has changed over the years.

Before you leave, step outside and get your photo taken in front of the mural on the side of the building. It’s one of my favorite downtown photo spots.

Free Entertainment and Things to Do at Night in Branson

Aquarium Fountain Show

Did you know Branson has two free fountain shows? The first one is located at the aquarium and is a fun little stop if you’re already on the Strip.

Branson Landing Fountain Show

The Branson Landing Fountain Show combines water, lights, music, and fire shooting from giant cannons. I still think those giant fire cannons are fun, and I’ve seen this fountain show more times than I can count.

It’s one of the most popular free attractions in Branson and a fun way to end an evening at the Landing.

Branson Landing Summer Concert Series

Throughout the summer, Branson Landing hosts free concerts featuring a variety of performers and genres.

If you’re looking for free things to do in Branson at night, this is a fun option that lets you enjoy live music without buying a ticket.

Free Moonshine Tastings

If you’re looking for a fun adults-only activity, Smith Creek Moonshine at Branson Landing offers free moonshine tastings. Just don’t forget your ID because you’ll need it to participate.

You can also head to Full Throttle Distillery in Historic Downtown Branson to sample a few different flavors of moonshine.

Free Wine Tastings

Smith Creek Winery also offers free wine tastings and is the only wine tasting spot on this list that I’d personally recommend. They have locations at Branson Landing and at Tanger Outlets, making it easy to stop in while you’re out exploring.
