You’ll find award-winning roller coasters, live entertainment, craftsmen demonstrating everything from blacksmithing to glass blowing, incredible seasonal food, unique shopping, Marvel Cave, and attractions for every age.

Whether you’re visiting with toddlers, teenagers, grandparents, or someone who doesn’t ride roller coasters, there’s truly something for everyone.

The Biggest Mistake I See Visitors Make

The biggest mistake isn’t riding the wrong rides.

It’s showing up without a plan.

Silver Dollar City has so much happening throughout the day that it’s impossible to experience everything if you just wander around hoping to stumble across it.

Before your visit, download the Silver Dollar City app.

Take a few minutes to look at the map.

See what shows are playing that day.

Check the Marvel Cave tour schedule.

Find the restaurants you want to try.

If you’re visiting during one of the festivals, look through the seasonal entertainment and food offerings before you arrive.

Even a loose plan will make your day so much better.

Get There About an Hour Early

If you’re like me and like getting an early start, I recommend arriving about an hour before the park officially opens.

That gives you plenty of time to park, catch the tram, get through security, and enjoy Town Square before rope drop.

A lot of first-time visitors don’t realize that Town Square opens about an hour before the rest of the park.

One of my favorite traditions is walking over to the little chapel for a quiet moment before the excitement of the day begins.

If you’re hungry, Molly’s Mill is also open before the rest of the park.

If convenience is your priority and you want a big breakfast before a long day, it’s a perfectly good option.

If food quality is more important to you, I’d probably eat breakfast outside the park before you arrive.

And maybe don’t eat the biggest breakfast of your life right before hopping on roller coasters…unless you’d like your breakfast to make a surprise reappearance.

Don’t Waste Your Money on Preferred Parking

This surprises a lot of people.

I actually prefer the free parking lots.

You can park in any of the open parking lots. I recommend trying to park close to one of the covered tram pickup stations. The trams come around every few minutes and will drop you off right at the front entrance.

Honestly, I think you’ll usually end up walking less than people who paid extra for preferred parking.

One quick tip…

Take a picture of where you parked before heading to the tram.

After spending an entire day at Silver Dollar City, every parking lot starts looking exactly the same.

My Rope Drop Strategy

As soon as the ropes drop, almost everyone heads to the right.

I go left.

Every single time.

I head straight for WildFire, PowderKeg, and Outlaw Run.

By the time most people make it across the park, I’ve usually ridden several of my favorite coasters with much shorter waits.

Then I work my way back toward Fire in the Hole and Time Traveler later in the morning.

There’s another reason I like this strategy.

The hills.

If you’ve never been to Silver Dollar City before, let me warn you now…the hills are no joke.

There’s a reason locals jokingly call one section of the park “Heart Attack Hill.”

By going left, you’ll spend the morning walking downhill instead of having to climb that hill later in the day when you’re already tired.

Trust me…your legs will appreciate it.

Is the Tasting Passport Worth It?

In my opinion…yes.

In fact, I buy one almost every festival.

The Tasting Passport is one of my favorite ways to experience Silver Dollar City because it lets you snack your way around the park instead of committing to one huge meal.

The portions aren’t massive, which is actually a good thing. If you’re planning on riding roller coasters all day, a giant meal probably isn’t the best idea anyway.

One passport includes five food items from participating locations throughout the park. This year they’re $38, and you also have the option to add a refillable drink mug.

Personally, I think the real value is in the food, not the drinks.

One passport can easily last one person all day, or you can share it with family and friends.

One thing I always recommend is looking over the menu before you start using your passport. Some items are a much better value than others.

And one more tip…

Don’t hang your passport on the lanyard.

The paper is surprisingly easy to lose. I always keep mine tucked away in my pocket or bag between stops.

Some of my favorite Harvest Festival items this year are the Chicken & Andouille Gumbo with Cheese Grits and the Apple Dumpling.

My Favorite Rides

Everyone has different favorites, but if you’re a roller coaster fan, these are the rides I’d prioritize.

Now here’s my unpopular opinion…

Most people will tell you Time Traveler is the best ride in the park.

It’s an incredible ride.

It also makes me a little nauseous.

I’m the girl who gets carsick, so all that spinning isn’t always my favorite.

If I could only ride one coaster all day, I’d choose PowderKeg.

That launch out of the station gets me every single time.

I know it’s coming, and it still takes my breath away.

New to Roller Coasters?

If giant coasters aren’t your thing, don’t let that stop you from visiting.

Fire in the Hole is one of my favorite rides to recommend for beginners.

It’s more of a family coaster than a thrill coaster. There are a couple of small drops near the end, but it’s a great way to ease into roller coasters without feeling like you’ve been thrown off a cliff.

I’ve had so many people tell me this was the ride that gave them the confidence to try bigger coasters later in the day.

Don’t Skip Marvel Cave

This is one of the biggest mistakes I see first-time visitors make.

Most people know Silver Dollar City as a theme park.

What many don’t realize is the park exists because of Marvel Cave.

Long before there were roller coasters, people came here to tour the cave. The attractions above ground were originally built to entertain visitors while they waited for their cave tour.

That history is one of the things that makes Silver Dollar City so unique.

And here’s a local tip…

If you’re visiting on one of those hot Missouri afternoons, that’s the perfect time to tour Marvel Cave.

It’s naturally cool underground and a nice break from the heat.

Just know there are quite a few stairs, so make sure everyone in your group is comfortable with that before joining the tour.

If I Could Only Recommend One Show…

Go see the Saloon Show.

I’ve watched it more times than I can count, and I still laugh.

It’s one of those shows that somehow entertains kids, parents, and grandparents all at the same time.

There’s a reason it’s been around for so many years.

During Old Time Christmas, I’d also make time for Dickens’ Christmas Carol.

It’s one of my favorite Christmas traditions at the park.

Don’t Forget the Train

The Frisco Silver Dollar Line Steam Train is one of those attractions people sometimes overlook because they’re focused on roller coasters.

Don’t make that mistake.

It’s a fun ride, there’s a little entertainment along the way, and it’s one of those classic Silver Dollar City experiences everyone should do at least once.

My tip?

Try to sit somewhere near the middle of the train.

That’s usually the best place to see and hear everything happening during the ride.

Visiting with Kids? Here’s What I’d Do.

Silver Dollar City is one of my favorite places to bring kids because there truly is something for every age.

If you have younger kids, don’t miss Fireman’s Landing and the Grand Exposition. These two areas are packed with rides that little ones can enjoy, and many of them are rides the whole family can experience together.

One thing parents don’t always realize is that you’re welcome to bring your own snacks, drinks, and food into the park. There are plenty of places to sit down and enjoy a quick snack without spending a fortune.

Just remember that glass containers aren’t allowed.

If you have little ones who still need a stroller, bring it. If walking is difficult for someone in your group, Silver Dollar City also rents mobility scooters. They can go quickly during busy times, so I recommend getting there early if you’ll need one.

My Favorite Tip for Families

If you’re visiting during Summer Celebration, Harvest Festival, or Old Time Christmas, don’t feel like you have to stay at the park from open to close.

Head back to your hotel in the afternoon for a quick nap, then come back for the evening.

Some of the biggest moments at Silver Dollar City happen after dark.

During Summer Celebration, you’ll get to experience the fireworks and drone show.

During Harvest Festival, thousands of glowing pumpkins transform the park.

During Old Time Christmas, you won’t want to miss the nighttime parade and millions of Christmas lights.

I’d much rather have a well-rested toddler who’s excited for the evening than an overtired one who’s melting down before the best part of the day even begins.

Don’t Like Roller Coasters?

You’re still going to have a great time.

I know plenty of people who visit Silver Dollar City and never ride a single roller coaster.

Watch the craftsmen at work.

Go shopping.

Take the Marvel Cave tour.

Ride the train.

Catch the Saloon Show.

Walk through the different themed areas of the park.

Enjoy the seasonal festivals and food.

Honestly, some of my favorite memories at Silver Dollar City have nothing to do with rides.

Is a Season Pass Worth It?

If there’s any chance you’ll visit Silver Dollar City more than once, I almost always recommend buying a season pass.

Here’s something many first-time visitors don’t know…

If you’ve already purchased a one-day ticket, stop by Guest Services before you leave. They’ll credit the price of your ticket toward the purchase of a season pass.

It’s a great way to save money if you decide you want to come back.

Even better, season passes for the following year usually go on sale in November.

That’s when you’ll typically find the best pricing and the most benefits, including Bring-a-Friend tickets and other perks.

How to Save Money at Silver Dollar City

The first place I always recommend checking is the Silver Dollar City website.

They regularly run promotions throughout the year, and ticket prices can vary depending on the day you visit.
