People ask me all the time where they should eat on the Branson Strip.

Nine times out of ten, I’m gonna tell ’em to go eat the fried catfish down at Local Flavor.

The Branson Strip is packed with bright lights, attractions, and chain restaurants. Then, right in the middle of all that, you’ll spot this little farmhouse that looks like it belongs out in the country instead of on Highway 76.

That’s Local Flavor.

Michelle, the owner, is from Oklahoma, and so am I. Maybe that’s why I love her cooking so much. It just tastes like home.

Comfort food is deeply personal. Everybody has a different opinion about what homemade cooking should taste like. So when a comfort food restaurant earns the kind of reputation Local Flavor has, Michelle must be doing something right.

I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, and I honestly can’t think of a meal I’ve ever been disappointed with.

Here’s What I’d Order

If this is your first visit, start with the fried catfish. It’s what I order almost every single time, and it’s the dish I recommend more than anything else on the menu.

For an appetizer, don’t even think about skipping the fried pepper jack cheese cubes.

They come with Michelle’s homemade ranch dressing, and I don’t say this lightly…

I think it’s the best ranch dressing in Branson.

And whatever you do…

Save room for dessert.

Michelle’s German chocolate cake is so good, I probably shouldn’t admit this…

But don’t tell my mom.

I think it’s even better than our family’s recipe.

Before You Go

Local Flavor is one of the most popular locally owned restaurants on the Branson Strip, so expect a wait during spring break, summer, Christmas, and other busy travel seasons.

If your schedule is flexible, I’d recommend an early lunch, a late lunch, or an early dinner.

They also have live music several nights each week. If the Massengale Brothers are on the schedule while you’re in town, you’ve hit the jackpot. They’re my favorite musicians in Branson, and they make an already great meal even better.
